My beloved very kindly bought me the new super duper 32gig iphone for my birthday. I was so excited! I could put all my music on it, so no more having to carry a phone and an ipod. I could use WordPress to write this blog on it. I could Tweet from different accounts easily. And it is a phone that makes phone calls, which was the BIG problem with my old phone.
Now I have the ultimate in phone technology and the gorgeous design of a Mac. What is my problem you ask? I want to know how to use the thing! I am not a technophobe by any means, I write this blog don’t I? And I Tweet. And I use Facebook.
What is irking me is that this lovely piece of equipment does not come with any but the most basic instructions. When I was asking about it in the Mac store, I was told “of course you know how it works” but I don’t . I must say nothing makes me feel stupider than handing over a large sum of money for an item that I have to make a two year commitment to without being given any instructions. I would have been over the moon to get Cd with instructions; I don’t necessarily need a book.
I understand how to do the basics, like make a call, send a text, download some of the zillions of applications (for a price of course) but what I could not figure out was how to go forward or backward a few seconds on a podcast. I had to pop into a mobile shop to find out how. I am sure that this machine will be magic that is once I figure out all the bits and pieces.
I must say I am a bit disappointed that I have to spend a considerable amount of time to learn a gadget that should be quite simple, and is, once you are told how to work it. Please manufacturers give us consumers instructions and guides. We don’t want to have to pop into a shop every time we have a question and we can not find the answer easily on the web. Rant over, thanks for reading.
It is easy…you’ll get over it & figure it out. Let me know if I can help.
Hi Tim and thanks for commenting. I am sure I will get the hang of it but I do think they should give the buyers a bit more information and not expect us to just figure it out. Working out how to best utilise a time saving device is a bit counter productive if it takes you a while to figure it out. Wouldn’t it be great if they could analyse what we are planning to use our iphone to do and suggest, without a sales pitch, some appropriate apps?
I want one of these but am with T-mobile so can’t get one – gutted!
I just left T Mobile so I could get one. I totally understand you being gutted as it is a pretty great piece of kit.
HA! Happy B Day!
Where is a 12 year old when you need one….
You could have borrowed mine!
🙂
